Token strike in all 4 NMDC units tomorrow
Bellary, Karnataka, July 6 (UNI) Employees of all the four National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) units will go on a token strike tomorrow in protest against the Union Government's move to disinvest 15 per cent stake in Donimalai Iron Ore Project, a subsidiary of NMDC.
Talking to UNI here, Donimalai Iron Ore Project Employees Association Secretary K Basavaraj and Metal and Mineral Workers Union Secretary J Gopal Setty said that as a mark of protest, the employees would suspend entire mining activities and even officers would not be allowed to attend work.
They warned that if the Government did not drop its disinvestment move, the unions would resort to an indefinite strike from August four.
The strike in the four units, including two units in Bailadilla iron ore sector in Chattisgarh and a diamonds excavation unit in Panna in Madhya Pradesh, would entail a loss of Rs 25 crore in turnover. Besides, transportation of iron ore to various destinations from Donimalai unit would also get stagnated.
