Swaminathan to head committee on employment in J
Srinagar, July 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced that the world famous agricultural scientist, Prof M S Swaminathan, will head a committee which would go into the employment-oriented development programmes in the state.
Prof Swaminathan was also included in TIME Magazine's 1999 list of the world's 100 most influential Asian people and is known as the ''Father of Indian Green Revolution'' for his contributions to the Green Revolution movement in India.
Addressing a news conference here, Mr Azad said the Cabinet, in its meeting this morning, noted that the state was facing a serious problem on account of unemployment.
''To overcome challenge on this front, we have decided that all development programmes should be employment-oriented,'' he added.
The Chief Minister said it has been decided to form a committee which would recommend employment-oriented development programmes besides setting up the required infrastructure in this regard.
Prof Swaminathan would be the chairman of this committee, he added.
