SC allows SIMI to withdraw petition seeking to lift ban
New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court today permitted the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) to withdraw its petition seeking to lift the ban on SIMI imposed by the central government.
The petitioner had challenged the ban on the grounds that no reasons have been given in the ban order and SIMI has not been found indulging in any terrorist or anti-national activities and hence the ban was uncalled for.
The bench comprising Mr Justice Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta when indicated that they were going to dismiss the pettion, the counsel for the petitioners sought permission to withdraw the same.
The court was of the view that since the tribunal was already seized of the matter, the court would not like to interfere. The court, however, granted the permission to SIMI to withdraw its writ petition and the same was dismissed as withdrawn.
