Saudi national comes to rescue of five jailed Indians
Dubai, July 6 (UNI) A Saudi Arabian national, moved by the plight of five Indians jailed for straying into Bahrain territorial waters while on a fishing trip, is determined to fight their case and get them released.
Ali Rashed Al Ghannam, who visits Bahrain twice a month, said the men were arrested on June 3 by the Bahrain Coastguard which also impounded the fishing vessel belonging to his company.
Although the boat has been released, the men from Tamil Nadu were jailed, Mr Ghannam said, adding the men worked hard to earn a decent living and contributed to the Saudi economy.
''I am very disappointed as there is no one to support them,'' he told Bahrain Tribune, asserting that no help is forthcoming from any official quarters.
The fishermen are Paniadimai Pethilias, Jegan Irudayadasan, Bedrinraj Lepponse, George Berkmanse and Xavier Maria Soosai.
