Purna jatra celebrated in Manipur
Imphal, Jul 6 (UNI) Purna Ratha jatra was being celebrated in Manipur today in splendour and gaiety as large numbers of devotees thronging the shri shri Govindajee temple here.
Massive security arrangements have been made around the temple from where the main rath (car) will be pulled.
The entire temple complex was packed with young boys and girls, men and women- in traditional attires. Police had a hard time controlling the crowd. The ratha was pulled out on June 27 and it has been kept in the open to be taken back today.
In the evening after the cremony at the shri shri Govindajee temple all localities will take out Ratha. The ISCKON also observed the festival in a big way, as the festival dates back to the early 19th century began in Manipur.
After a Manipuri prince saw the festival, he introduced here in the first half of 19th century.
