Ordinance to arrest sand, rice smugglers under Goondas Act

Chennai, July 6 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Governor has promulgated an ordinance to facilitate arrest of those involved in illicit sand quarrying under the Goondas Act.

An official release here last night said the government had been concerned with incidents of illicit sand quarrying which not only destroyed fragile ecosystem but also put the life of officials at risk.

The ordinance will help the government to arrest anti-socials involved in such activities under the Goondas Act.

The Act will also be enforced against those involved in rice smuggling also.
