NLC staff call of stir

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, July 6 (UNI) Employees of the Public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) called off their indefinite strike this evening after the Centre announced it would ''put on hold'' its decision to disinvest ten per cent equity in the company.

Hours after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made an announcement to this effect following the initiative of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the Joint Action Council (JAC), spearheading the strike, met here this evening and decided to call off the stir.

The employees decided to resume work at 2200 hrs today and start power generation in three thermal power stations, which ceased to function after the stir was launched on the night of July four.
