MP Govt to award gram panchayats

Bhopal, July 6 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to give award from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 lakh to gram panchayats if its panchas and sarpanchas are elected unopposed.

The decision is aimed at promoting the practice of arriving at a unanimous decision among panchas and sarpanchas, an official release here said.

The award amount along with a letter of citation would be handed over to the gram panchayats during the Independence Day or the Republic Day celebration at the district headquarters.

Under the scheme, gram panchayats would receive Rs 25,000 award if its sarpanchas are elected unopposed, while a reward of Rs one lakh would be given if all the panchas and sarpanchas are elected unopposed.

Gram panchayats having only women sarpanchas and panchas would be given Rs two lakh award.

A five-member selection committee -- headed by the district collector -- has been constituted in every district for this purpose, the release added.
