Monsoon subsides in Surat after a day's heavy rain

Surat, July 6 (UNI) Monsoon clouds receded after a day's heavy rainfall here.

Many talukas in the district recorded lesser rainfall today, compared to yesterday, district flood control room informed.

The total rainfall recorded in the district till 0800 hrs yesterday was 237 mm. On the other hand the rainfall recorded till 0800 hrs today was 217 mm, informed district flood control room here.

Meanwhile, the district administration has evacuated 17 families consisting of 90 members from a waterlogged area in Olpad taluka to a nearby public health centre, informed the collector's office here.

The collector's office also informed that a high level meeting is going on, to take stock of the situation after the heavy downpour in the district. Collector and additional district collector are participating in the meeting, sources said.
