Shillong, Jul 6 (UNI) Meghalaya Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh today assured the Garo Students' Union leaders that the probe on the twin firing incidents in Garo Hills would be completed before September 4.

The Home Minister made this assurance after a group of GSU activists, led by its President Andreas T Marak, met the former at his office chamber this afternoon.

'' We were glad that the Home Minister had assured us to complete the probe before September 4,'' Mr Marak said.

Mr Lyngdoh yesterday informed the Assembly that the delay in completion of the inquiry into the September 30 twin firing incident was due to a writ petition filed by the Choudhury Commission before the Principal seat of Gauhati High Court.

Nine people, including some women, were killed while scores were injured on September 30 last in a police firing at Tura and Williamnagar over the issue of revamping and restructuring the Meghalaya Board of School Education, which have its headquarters at Tura, West Garo Hills District.
