Kaginele seer passes away

Bangalore, July 6 (UNI) Sri Beerendra Keshava Tarakanandapuri Swamiji, head of Kaginele Kanaka Gurupeeth in Haveri district of North Karnataka, passed away here today following cardiac arrest.

He was 80.

The seer was staying in the city-based branch of the mutt for the past few days due to illness. He had taken over in February 1992 as the Jagadguru of Kanaka Gurupeeth belonging to the pastoral Kuruba community, which was the third biggest in the State. Hailing from Nanjangud town in Mysore district, he was a master degree holder in philosophy. His work 'Philosophy of Life' earned him fame and he brought out a periodical 'Kanaka Spoorthi'.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M P Prakash, former Chief Minister Dharam Singh and KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge condoled the death of the Swamiji. Soon after hearing the demise, Ministers K S Eshwarappa and Bandeppa Kashempur, former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former Minister H M Revanna visited the mutt and paid tributes to the departed soul.

The mortal remains were kept for public homage. The last rites would be performed in Kaginele tomorrow.
