Journalist, Student's Union leader assualted in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jul 6 (UNI) Former Editor of a Khasi weekly Philip Marwein and West Khasi Hills Students' Union vice-president Mebankit Syiemlieh were assaulted by a group of masked men in two separate incidents here late last night.

Police said here today the masked men attacked Mr Marwein in his Jaiaw Lansona Lane residence with lethal weapons, causing him severe head injuries.

While another unidentified group attacked Mr Syiemlieh at his residence in Bishop causing multiple injuries.

Mr Syiemlieh said the unidentified miscreants, who stormed his house, attacked him as he supported West Khasi Hills Students' Union to construct 20 km road from Wahkaji to Mawthabah near the proposed Uranium mining site in West Khasi Hills district.
