INMA welcomes Venugopal's dismissal

New Delhi, Jul 6: Welcoming the decision to dismiss the AIIMS Director, the Indian National Medical Association (INMA), today demanded an inquiry into several financial transactions ordered by Dr P Venugopal and his role in the anti-quota strike.

INMA also demanded that ESMA be invoked against striking doctors in AIIMS.

''The association condemns the favouritism and nepotism that prevailed during casteist Dr Venugopal's tenure.... during his term AIIMS was run as an autocratic body,'' INMA National President S P Singh said.

He said a probe should be ordered into the misuse of Rs 40 crore meant for ''Patient Care Account'' and the purchase of Robotic Surgery Equipment.

Dr Singh also demanded an inquiry to ascertain the reason for the resignation of five senior doctors from AIIMS.

''The autocratic style of Dr Venugopal's functioning is responsible for their resignation and that should be probed,'' he added.
