Illegal mining rampant in K'taka, despite SC direction

Bangalore, July 6 (UNI) Even as the Supreme Court brought mining activities at the public sector Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd to a grinding halt, illegal mining was rampant in forest lands in Chikmagalur district with the collusion of Government officials, Congress member D M Putte Gowda alleged in the Karnataka Legislative Council today.

Raising the issue amidst a dharna by the Opposition Congress demanding the immediate tabling of the U B Singh Committee report on illegal mining in forest lands in the State, he informed the House that illegal mining activities were continuing in Kemmannugundi and other areas of the district.
