Govt has taken all steps for relief: Minister

Hyderabad, July 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said the government had taken all steps in organising rescue and relief operations for people in the rain-affected districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.

The administration had acted immediately and pressed helicopters and boats into service to rescue people in the marooned villages.

Relief camps were opened and affected people evacuated to safer places.

The government distributed 20 kg of rice and five litre of kerosene to the affected peoople and despatched medical teams to the rain-hit areas to check outbreak of diseases, Mr Rao said.

Because of the steps taken by the administration, loss of animal and human life was averted in the havoc in which several villages in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts were marooned by flood waters caused by the huge discharge from the Nagavali and Vamsadhara Rivers following heavy rainfall.

Mr Rao said the officials were also monitoring the increase of water level in River Godavari at Bhadrachalam.
