Ganga Katari area residents asked to shift
Kanpur, July 6 (UNI) The residents of Ganga Katari were today directed to leave the area between July to October 31, since Ganga may overflow its banks due to heavy rains in its upper catchment area.
The river had started rising following the construction of Ganga Barrage, an official release from the irrigation department said.
Hundreds of families in Shankarpura Sarai (Kallupurawa), Lodhawa Kheda (Rama Nihalpur) and Lodhawa Kheda (Kachi Madaiya) should vacate their houses in mid-stream, the release added.
Last year, Ganga Katari area was affected badly as the river washed away majority of villages situated in mid-stream. Ganga, changed its cause from inhabited areas some time back, now again flows in close proximity to the city due to the construction of the Ganga barrage.
