Ex-footballer dies of alleged negligence in city hospital

Kolkata, Jul 6 (UNI) The authorities of SSKM hospital, the main referral hospital here, today constituted a four-member high power committee to probe the death of former footballer of Kolkata maidan Bhaskar Adhikari under mysterious circumstances yesterday.

Bhaskar, who was admitted to the city's main referral hospital about three days ago following acute abdominal pain, succumbed last night after being in pain for several hours.

However, following Bhaskar's death, his family members lodged a formal complaint with SSKM Superintendant Ashok Ghosh, alleging negligence on part of the attending doctors.

Announcing the formation of an inquiry committee to look into the exact cause of the former footballer's death, Dr Ghosh, however, made it clear that anyone found guilty of negligence would be 'severely punished'.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended on Kolkata maidan following reports of sudden death of the former footballer.
