Hyderabad, Jul 6 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today said though Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered a near wash out in the local body polls from Srikakulam to Chittoor, the TDP was trying to create the impression that it performed well.

Speaking to newsmen here, CLP Spokesperson Muddu Krishnama Naidu, MLA, credited Congress' good performance in the polls to the programmes taken up by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

He said the results only proved the hollowness of TDP's claims of the Congress losing grip over the people.

Even in traditional TDP strongholds like Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam, it fared poorly. In Chittoor, where five TDP MLAs were elected, the party's performance was disappointing.

During the 2001 polls, the TDP got 12 ZPTCs and the Congress ten ZPTCs. Now the Opposition party won three ZPTCs and Congress bagged 18 ZPTCs.

On TDP's allegations by that the Chief Minister's Office was involved in the handing over of 240 acres of land in Pupalguda in Ranga Reddy district to eight persons in violation of norms, Mr Naidu said they were baseless and far from truth.
