CCEA approves mandatory use of jute in packaging for 2006-07

New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for 100 per cent compulsory packaging for foodgrains and sugar for the Jute Year 2006-07 (July-June).

Briefing newspersons on the outcome of the CCEA meeting here, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the CCEA did not adhere to the recommendations of the Standing Committee in this regard and decided to continue with the last year's policy.

''This is a good news for Eastern India as it will help provide sustenance to millions of people engaged in the Jute Sector,'' Mr Dasmunsi said.

The Minister said the CCEA's decision was in fulfilment of the pronouncements made in the Common Minimum Programme.
