All Indians through to second round in Asian Junior Badminton

Kaula Lumpur, July 6 (UNI) Indians began their campaign in style in the individual events with all of them winning their opening round matches in the Asian Junior Badminton championship here.

Gayatri Vartak did not have to toil much to beat Nabila Akhtar of Bangladesh 21-11, 21-13, while GM Nishita got the better of Vietnamese Vu Thi Trang 21-13, 21-17 in the girl's singles.

Gayatri will meet Vu Thi Huong Lan of Vietnam in the second round while Nischita will take on Oku Yukina of Japan.

Title contender and second seeded Indian, Saina Nehwal got a bye and she will begin her campaign in the second round against Guerrero Raquel of Philippines. Ruth Misha was also given a bye and she will take on Ashikin Siti Nor of Singapore.

In the boy's singles, the Indians will start their games in the second round as all of them got byes in the first round.

Jishnu Sanyal plays Putro Wisnu Haryo of Indonesia, Akshay Dewalkar takes on Sepalage Perera Thilan of Sri Lanka, Srujan Nandaluri faces Choi Sang Won of South Korea and Arun Nandaluri meets Mao Chan Than of Combodia in the second round.

In the girl's doubles, Gayatri Vartak and GM Nishita beat Hong Kong's Chan Tsz Ka and Yeung Hin Tung 21-16, 21-15 in the only match featuring Indians. The other Indian pair of Sosali Nitya and Ashwini Ponnappa will have a tough time when they begin the second round against second seeded duo of Woon Khe Wei and Ho Bee Ling of Malaysia.

The Indian boys will also start their compaign in the second round of the doubles competition as they got byes in the opening round. Jishnu Sanyal and Akshay Dewalkar will play Sri Lanka's Rajitha Sandeepan Dahanayaka and Hettiarachchi Nuwan while Arun Vishnu and Ram C Vijay will take on Liu xiaolong and Zhang Yingdong of China.
