UDF launched in UP: Yusuf Quereshi is new chairman
Lucknow, July 5 (UNI) The United Democratic Front (UDF), floated in the national capital on June 10, was today launched in Uttar Pradesh with Mohd Yusuf Quereshi being nominated as its chairman.
Announcing the new office bearers of the UP unit, UDF advisory board chairman and former union minister C M Ibrahim said a 12-member committee had been formed.
Mr Ibrahim said the UDF was not averse to any alliance for the coming assembly polls and hoped by November, it would become a reckoning political force in the state.
At the first conference of the UDF in UP this morning, he said about 22 political and non-political organisations had lent their support to the UDF.
Mr Quereshi is the elder brother of controversial state minister Haji Yakoob Quereshi, who is also lending his support to the Front.
In his address, the new chairman called upon all the leaders opposed to parties, who had ditched Muslims, to join the UDF.
Other functionaries of the state UDF are: Mahboob Ahmed (chairman Parliamentary Board), Prof. Khan Mohd Atif, Chaudhary Zia-ul-Islam, Khalid Sabir and Mufti Mohd Ayyub Khan Naimi (all vice-chairman), Saleem Ahmed Peerzada (secretary general and spokesman), Wasi Ahmed, Syed Askari Raza (both general secretary), Saleem Ahmed Babri, Sarwar Ali and Zafar Iqbal (all secretary).
