Suspected militant shot dead

Imphal, Jul 5 : A suspected militant was shot dead in an encounter by a team of Manipur police at midnight last night at Tarung, Imphal.

Police said around 10 people were moving suspiciously and when challenged they hurled a hand grenade at the police. No one was, however, injured.

The police team retaliated and later a body was found.

Police said a demand letter of theKuki Revolutionary Army was recovered from the deceased.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident an NSCN(K) cadre was held by the Imphal police. In another incident police said a woman was beaten up by some armed persons at Andro, Imphal east. The woman was rushed to hospital for treatment.
