Six children die in accident

Cuddalore, July 5 (UNI) Six children died and at least six others were seriously injured when their school van collided with a lorry on the Nellikuppam-Cuddalore Road this morning.

Authorities at the Cuddalore Government Hospital, where the injured have been admitted, said the casualties were likely to rise.

Nearly 40 children belonging to families working in the EID Parry factory at Nellikuppam were travelling in the van and most of them have suffered injuries. About 2,000 people have gathered outside the hospital to inquire about their condition.

District Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi and local MLAs are also at the hospital.

Police have launched a search for the lorry, which did not stop after the accident, which occurred at around 0915 hrs.
