Sensex up 163 pts at 10,825.78

Mumbai, July 5: The BSE sensitive index (Sensex) has gained 163 points in the intra noon trade to currently trade at 10,825.78 pointsm, as the FMCG, IT, and Metal stocks gained losses on the index, largely influenced by the equitable progress of monsoon in India, strong performance of London Metals Exchange and the good showing by the Software companies.

All the BSE sectoral indices were in the green, led by FMCG up b 2.44 per cent and followed by Metals at 1.98 per cent, capital Goods at 1.67 per cent and others between 0.35 and 1.14 per cent.

Major gainers on the index were- HLL, HDFC, Grasim Industries, Reliance Communications, Tata Steel, L&T, Dr Reddy Lab, HDFC, ITC and Gujarat Ambuja Cement, all up between 1.87 to 4.11 per cent.

Major losers on the index were- Wipro down by 0.60 per cent, Ranbaxy down by 0.49 per cent, SBI down by 0.46 per cent, Tata Motors down by 0.39 per cent, and NTPC down by 0.35 per cent.

All the Asian benchmark indices were in the red.
