Sensex opens 21 pts in red, but recovers soon

Mumbai, July 5 (UNI) The BSE sensex today opened in the red by 21 points at 10,641.33 on poor performance of the Asian markets as apprehensions over North Korea's missile testing programme were proven right.

However, the BSE Sensitive Index recovered from the weak opening and gained 164 points to 10,835 at 1200 hrs, as the FMCG and metals sector showed some strong performance on the index, charged by reasonable monsoon and strong showing of the London Metal Exchange respectively.

Sectors which have boosted today's trade are Mid cap, smallcap, Teck, PSU, Auto, Bankex, Capital Goods, Consumer Durables, FMCG, IT, Metals And Oil&Gas, all up between 0.60 to 2.15 per cent.

Major scrips which have gained on the index were- HLL, Grasim, Tata Steel, HDFC, L&T, Reliance Communications, ITC, Gujarat Ambuja Cement and Maruti Udyog all up between 1.64 to 4.80 per cent.

However, there were only two losers on the sensex- NTPC and Ranbaxy Lab down by 0.39 and 0.31 per cent respectively.
