Power minister's effigy burnt in Manipur

Imphal, Jul 5 (UNI) Irked by government's inablity to provide power, residents of Pallel and surrounding areas at Thoubal district today burnt effigies of state power minister Francis Ngajokpa, local MLA Tomba and officials of power department.

Officials informed that national highway 39 was also blocked by agitators and talks were held with people to suspend their stir.

Sources said that transformers had broken down and were being repaired. However, there is shortage of transformers in the state.

The local people and MLAs had been collecting money required to repair the transformers, which takes from one month to four months.

The stir severely affected the traffic between Imphal and Moreh, disturbing international trade at Moreh.
