NLC strike will not affect Pondicherry: Vaithilingam
Pondicherry, Jul 5 (UNI) The generation of power at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), which had come to a standstill following the indefinite strike by the employees to protest the Centre's move to sell ten per cent equity stake will not hit the Union Territory of Pondichery, Territorial Power Minister V Vaithilingam said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said the strike would not affect the Union Territory as NLC provided only six per cent of the total power requirement. ''The rest of power is being obtained from Hyderbad, Chennai, Mettur and the National Power Grid,'' he added.
Hinting that a slight cut might be imposed on major industries which totally depended on electricity, the Minister said there would not be any power cut to domestic, commercial and small and medium industrial units.
