Nepal sends letter to UN to monitor army, maoists
Kathmandu, July 5: Nepal has asked UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to manage and monitor weapons and armies of the government and the Maoists.
''We have forwarded the letter asking the UN to monitor and manage the weapons before the run up to the constituent assembly elections'' the state run daily The Rising Nepal quoted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs K P Oli as saying.
The letter was sent on behalf of the Prime Minister who is ill and admitted at a hospital.
The letter has been handed over at the UN office in Kathmandu, Mr Oli said.
The letter had been prepared as per the eight-point agreement between the Seven Party Alliance and the CPN-Maoists following the high level talks on June 16, he added.
