N Korea missiles to feature at G8 summit Russia
MOSCOW, July 5 (Reuters) North Korea's test missile launches will very likely be discussed by Group of Eight heads of state at their summit in Russia later this month, a Russian presidential aide said today.
''Without doubt ... North Korea will most likely be discussed by the leaders,'' Igor Shuvalov, the Russian official organising the G8's July 15-17 summit in St. Petersburg, told the Rossiya state television station.
''The leaders traditionally discuss the question of (nuclear) non-proliferation and Korea's capabilities have significantly increased through the acquisition of ballistic missiles and of course this question will be touched upon as part of the non-proliferation theme,'' Shuvalov said.
The UN Security Council today was considering whether to impose sanctions on North Korea after the reclusive state test-fired a series of missiles including a long-range weapon.
