India to import 120 lakh tonnes of kerosene in 2006-07
New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) Faced with a domestic shortfall of the poor man's fuel, the country will import 120 lakh tonnes of kerosene in 2006-07 to meet the demand, Petroleum Secretary M S Srinivasan said today.
He told newspersons here that 240,000 tonnes of kerosene imports were made during April-June 2006-07. Another 60,000 tonnes was expected within the next fortnight.
Due to lower domestic production, it was planned to import 300,000 tonnes every three months this year, the Petroleum Secretary said.
The kerosene, which is highly subsidised, will be sold through the public distribution system.
