Heavy rain hits normal life in Vadodara city

Vadodara, July 5 (UNI) Life was thrown out of gear in the city and its adjoining areas as heavy rains lashed the region this morning.

Hundreds of people were stranded as the rain, said to be the heaviest in the current monsoon, caused severe water-logging in several areas, including slums and societies located in the low-lying areas.

Official sources said a couple ''uchha'' houses collapsed in the Sayajigung area and several trees were uprooted in different parts of the city. However, there was no report of any casualty so far.

The civic authorities had pressed men and machineries to clear road blocks and chocked drainages in worst-hit water-logged areas of Nizampura, Sama, Karelibaug, Chhani and Sayajigunj. The meteorologial department had predicted heavy rains in this part of central Gujarat during the next 24 hours.
