Fraud kingpin nabbed

Kolkata, Jul 5 (UNI) Indranil Mitra, the prime accused in the soccer ticket scam, was detained in Mumbai yesterday on his return from London.

Police then escorted him back to the city. His father Pannalal Mitra was also arrested from Shakespeare Sarani. He was found actively involved in the case, after police seized some incriminating documents which proved his involvement.

Pannalal has been taken into the custody till July 10. The situation became more rife for the duo after the city court asked police to probe a complaint by a Zurich-based travel agency, who have claimed that the duo have cheated it of Rs 26.35 lakh.

Naresh Rawal, General Manager(Sales) of the travel agency (which has an office in Mumbai), claimed that Indranil had forged UTI documents and had sent the tourists on a European tour to watch the World Cup Soccer 2006.

The travel agency run by Mitra, called Endeavour, had sent some 31 people to germany and when they landed there they found that they were left with no bookings. The second batch that was due to leave filed FIR with Shakespeare sarani Police station against the agency and its owner.
