Fraud kingpin Indranil Mitra nabbed

Kolkata, July 5 (UNI) Indranil Mitra, the prime accused in the soccer ticket scam, was brought here today after he was detained in Mumbai yesterday on his return from London.

His father Pannalal Mitra was also arrested from Shakespeare Sarani. Police seized some incriminating documents which proved his involvement. Pannalal has been sent to police custody till July 10.

A city court had asked police to probe a complaint by a Zurich-based travel agency, which claimed that the duo have cheated it of Rs 26.35 lakh.

Naresh Rawal, General Manager (Sales) of the travel agency (which has an office in Mumbai), claimed that Indranil had forged UTI documents and had sent the tourists on a European tour to watch the ongoing World Cup in Germany.

The travel agency run by Mitra, called Endeavour, had sent some 31 people to Germany and when they landed there they found that they were left with no bookings. The second batch that was due to leave filed FIR with Shakespeare Sarani Police station against the agency and its owner.
