Bhopal, July 5 (UNI) Five people have been killed in rain-related incidents in western Madhya Pradesh's Khargone and Badwani districts where ongoing downpours threw life out of gear and road links with several places were severed as rivers and 'nullahs' were in spate.

''A low pressure area, which formed in the vicinity of Nagpur, has reached close to western Madhya Pradesh. Precipitation is likely across the state over the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall might lash the western part over the next 12 hours,'' said Regional Meteorological Centre Director D P Dubey.

The monsoon remained strong over western Madhya Pradesh overnight. Khargone, Badwani and Dhar districts witnessed downpours.

A record seven inches precipitation was recorded in Khargone district's Jhiranya. At Tigriya village, a 13-year-old boy drowned in the swirling waters of the Veda river while a youth was electrocuted to death at Dala village.

In Badwani district, two persons drowned in a 'nullah' within Sajwani Police Station limits and a third person drowned in the Goi river.
