Miraculous escape for workers

Madikeri, Karnataka, July 5 : Eleven persons had a miraculous escape when an electric pole fell on the boat ferrying them through the swollen Cauvery river at Dubare in Kodagu district.

Police said the pole fell on the motor boat, carrying the workers back home from an island resort yesterday. While some of them swam to safety, three persons hung on to a tree branch hanging low until they were rescued. The boat was washed away in the swirling waters, police added.

The hilly Kodagu district was experiencing heavy rains since the last three days, resulting in landslips, falling of trees and inundation.
