Congress members stagewalk out in Karnataka Assembly
Bangalore, July 5 (UNI) Congress members in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly today staged a walkout in protest against 'inadequate measures' initiated by the government in taking up relief works in rain affected areas of the state.
Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar, replying to a discussion, said the government had released Rs 55 crores to various district headquarters and an additional amount of Rs 16 crores was also released recently for the purpose. Relief measures were taken up on a war footing and there was no dearth of funds, he assured.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who intervened, said the state had witnessed an excess rainfall of 37 per cent during the year so far and during the last one week, it had received 287 mm rains as against normal 208 mm. Several ministers were camping in rain-affected districts, he added.
Not satisfied by the reply, the Congress members led by Opposition leader N Dharam Singh walked out of the House shouting slogans against the government.
