Coalition Govt in K'taka divided over BMIC: Dharam

Bangalore, July 5 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh today claimed that the H D Kumaraswamy-led JD(S)-BJP Government was divided over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) issue and urged it to display a political commitment to resolve the row.

Participating in a discussion on the issue in the Karnataka Assembly, he said the Government should take a firm decision on bringing in a legislation to take over excess land and distribute to farmers. Two different opinions were prevailing among the coalition partners themselves and hence it could not take a firm decision, he claimed.

Mr Singh said if a coalition Government should succeed, the partners should be large-hearted and cooperate with each other, sinking their differences. However, there was no unanimity in the Government, he added.

Referring to his coalition Government innings, he said he had obliged the JD(S) partner when there was a demand for setting up a high-power committee to go into the project.

Mr Singh said the Congress had no objection to the Government taking over excess land, but the Government should identify it.

Though a high-power committee had in the past commented about the excess land provided to the project developers of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, it had failed to identify such land. The project, which had been lingering on for over a decade now, had seen the involvement of several Governments.

The Chief Minister would give his reply tomorrow, Speaker Krishna announced, before resuming the discussion in the afternoon.
