Casualties in Gaza explosion: Medics

Gaza, July 5: An explosion in Gaza City today caused several Palestinian casualties, witnesses and medics said.

The Israeli military said it was checking the report.

The blast came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert authorised Israeli forces to step up strikes against the governing Palestinian faction Hamas in response to the abduction of a soldier and cross-border rocket fire from Gaza.
