Bhajan not to join BJP, nor float new party

Written by: Staff

Hisar, Jul 5 (UNI) Reiterating that he would stay in the Congress, former Haryana Congress president Bhajan Lal today set aside speculations that he might join the BJP or float a new party.

''I will neither join the BJP or float a new party. Congress is my own party and everything would be alright in due course of time,'' said Mr Bhajan Lal whose resignation from the top party post in the state was accepted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday.

Asked about the possibility of his joining the BJP, he said: ''The question of my joining the BJP does not arise.'' Regarding his future course of action, he disclosed that he would undertake a statewide tour of Haryana commencing on July 20. He said he would begin the tour from Kurukshetra and then traverse all other parts of the state.

Dismissing a suggestion that he needed rest now, the former Chief Minister quipped, ''Abhi to main jawan hun...Kaam karne ki shakti hai (I am still young and have the stamina to work).'' Mr Lal, who had come to Hisar--his native town--after acceptance of his resignation, was hailed by scores of his supporters who raised slogans in his favour.

Regarding the burning of effigies of Congress general secretary and Haryana incharge Janardhan Dwivedi by his supporters at some places, he said he was ignorant about any such development anywhere in the state.
