Bastar flood situation grim

Jagdalpur, July 5 (UNI) Incessant rainfall in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh since the past three days has raised the level of Indravati river, which is flowing 2.5 metres above the danger mark, official sources here said.

A flood-like situation has been created in about 250 villages near the river. Administrative team cannot reach the villages easily because of their remoteness.

About 300 families were evacuated from nearby low-lying areas and sheltered at relief camps. Several houses suffered damages due to torrential rainfall.

Sixty-eight houses in Kondagon block were in the grip of floods and its residents were shifted to safer places.

Meanwhile, Beligaon, Dogariguda and Belpur villages were islanded for the second consecutive day today and the residents were evacuated.

The Jagdalpur-Raipur Road remained closed as Kakdighat bridge was damaged and water was flowing three metres above Jugani 'nullah'.
