Mah Asmbly passes resolution on holding open ballot elections
Mumbai, July 4 (UNI) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution recommending that the elections to the Legislative Council from the Legislative Assembly and the Local body constituencies be held through open ballot on the lines of the Rajya Sabha elections.
The resolution was moved by Minister of State for General Administration (GAD) Rajesh Tope and was unanimously passed by a voice vote. Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam said horse trading and cross voting were affecting all political parties due to the secret ballot poll during the council elections.
''We all know what happened during last month's council polls from the Legislative Assembly segment where MLAs from all political parties cross voted. The names of such people should be made public and MLAs have to be held accountable.'' BJP member Devendra Phadanvis, CPM member Narsayya Adam, Shiv sena member Dagdu Satpal and others spoke on the resolution.
