Torrential rain lashes Mumbai city, suburbs
Mumbai, July 3 : Torrential rainfall continued to lash the city and its suburbs for the third day today.
Local train services of Western and Central Railways, were running 20 to 25 minutes behind schedule as trains are running on restricted speed as a precautionary measure, Railway control room sources said.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) sources said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue for another 24 hours. In the past 24 hrs ending 0830 hrs, Colaba recorded 129.0 mm rainfall, while Santacruz recorded 164.5 mm.
Fire brigade has received more than 50 calls of fallen trees and short circuits since 0700 hrs this morning.
Road traffic was diverted near Bharat Mata Cinema in southcentral Mumbai due to water logging, the traffic control room said. They added, there was a traffic jam at Andheri sub-way, Milan sub-way and some other areas in western suburbs due to water logging earlier in the morning today. Reports received here said, the traffic jam has eased and vehicles have been plying.
