Sania-Vizner enter mixed doubles second round at Wimbledon

London, July 3 (UNI) Indians started their mixed doubles campaign on a bright note with Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Pavel Vizner recording a straight set victory over the Spanish pair of Fernando Verdasco and Anabel Medina Garrigues and Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi getting a walkover in their respective opening round matches at the Wimbledon here.

Sania and Vizner won their match 6-2, 7-5 and will now take on the Czech-South African pair of Leos Friedl and Liezel Huber in the second round.

The Indo-Czech pair dominated the first set and hardly put a foot wrong as they raced away with the initiative. The second set was a more fighting affair as Verdasco and Garrigues came back strongly but Sania and Vizner kept their composure to ward off the resistence put up by the Spanish pair to take the set and seal the match in their favour.

Meanwhile, the fourth seeded Indo-Asutralian pair of Leander Paes and Samantha Stosur got a bye in their first round match and will now face Paul Hanley of Australia and Tatiana Perebiynis of Ukraine in the next round.

The 11th seeded duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Chinese Zi Yan also got a walkover in the first round and will take on the US pair of Bob Bryan and Venus Williams in the second round.
