Repoll begins in violence-hit areas in Andhra

Hyderabad, Jul 3: Amidst tight security, repolling began this morning in 68 polling stations in nine of 11 districts of Andhra Pradesh where violence left one person dead and a score of persons injured in the second phase of the two-tier elections to Panchayat Raj Institutions yesterday.

Police posted unprecedented security for the repoll in 32 polling stations in Guntur district where ruling and opposition party activists indulged in violence during the polls, to ensure that voters could exercise their franchise without fear, State Election Commission sources here said.

The other booths where repoll was being held included 14 in Chittoor district, five in Srikakulam, three each in Warangal, Rangareddy and Nellore, two in Khammam and one in Nizamabad.

The second phase of polling was incident-free in Visakhapatnam and West Godavari, they added.
