Pejawar seer backs Sabarimala traditions
Bangalore, July 3 (UNI) Backing the age-old tradition of not allowing women into the famous Sabarimala Ayyappa temple in Kerala, Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of the Pejawar Mutt in Udupi today said there was no point in questioning the different traditions being followed in different temples.
Reacting to the raging controversy over Kannada actress Jayamala entering sanctum sanctorum of the hill shrine and touching the idol, he said ''Some temples allow all people to enter even the sanctum sanctorum, while a few others do not allow even pontiffs like me to enter it.
''I do not know much about the customs followed in Sabarimala, but as it is being followed for the past several years, it should not be branded as anti-women,'' he opined.
Even the actress had regretted her act, the seer added.
