Naxal menace will be contained soon: Sen
Hyderabad, July 3 : Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Swaranjit Sen claimed that the Maoists menace had been reduced considerably by the police in the State.
Talking to newspersons here yesterday, Mr Sen said the Maoists would be marginalised with the sustained efforts of the police within six months.
He denied the Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh's recent statement that Andhra Pradesh has become a Special Economic Zone for naxals to get trained and exported to other states like Chhattisgarh.
He admitted that it was a mistake on the part of the police to prevent the escape of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Sudhakar from police clutches recently in Vijayanagaram.
''At one point of time Sudhakar almost came into the police net.
Asked about the proposed naxal-infested states coordination meeting on July 13 at Bhuvaneshwar, Mr Sen, who is the chief of the naxal-infested states coordination committee stated that the meeting would discuss about the better exchange of intelligence and more coordinated determined ground action.
He said future strategy to tackle naxals and trends in Maoists movement would also come up for discussion. ''How every state is taking up programmes on development of backward areas would also be studied in detail', he added.
