Man makes bid on minor daughters' lives

Guwahati, Jul 3 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a man attempted to kill his three minor daughters in Rukminigaon area of the city yesterday.

Police informed that Subhash Barman, a carpenter, tried to kill his three daughters, all aged between two to eight years, yesterday morning when his wife was away.

While two of them, Kokila(8) and Majani(4), were attacked by a hacksaw blade and received serious injuries, the youngest Sulekha(2) was strangulated. The three girls are now at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

His wife Sumati returned just when he was trying to kill their children and raised an alarm. The neighbours intervened and managed to save the girls.

After being arrested by Dispur police, Subhash confessed his crime and said 'infidelity' by his wife had driven him to such a drastic point.

He said he wanted to 'save' his daughters from following into their mother's footsteps.

Police are investigating the motive behind the crime with a section of people alleging that the crime bore signs of negative attitude towards the girl child.
