Dubai, July 3 (UNI) Three waitresses from Kerala have been placed under Bahrain police protection after complaints of sexual exploitation and non-payment of promised wages by a restaurant owner in Manama city.

Jalaja C Nair, Biji Palliparambil Chacko and Sai Chandra Babu, complained of psychological and sexual harassment for the past seven months.

Jalaja told the Bahrain Tribune they were threatened that they would be locked up in a room after work and were pressurised to go out with customers.

Biji was beaten up on Sunday when she protested against the treatment but somehow managed to call up police emergency number for help.

Following the arrival of the police and with embassy intervention, lawyers have been provided to them.

Their lawyers said the women were not paid salaries in full as per the contract.
