India invited as guest of honour in Frankfurt Book Fair
New Delhi, Jul 3 (UNI) India has been invited as Guest of Honour country during the Frankfurt Book Fair, 2006, making it the only country to receive the honour twice, the first time being in 1986.
During the book fair, the National Book Trust (NBT) has organised reading sessions by eminent Indian authors, seminars on topics of mutual interest with German collaborators, screening of popular Indian films and plays by eminent theatre activists, chairman of the trust Bipin Chandra said.
The organisation of these events is part of efforts by the trust to present today's India at the biggest International book event, Prof Bipin Chandra said.
As part of its efforts to portray multicultural and multi-lingual characteristic and identity of the country, the NBT will also showcase books from India in all 24 languages, Prof Bipin Chandra said.
India being invited as a Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book fair is a rare occasion because India is the first country to receive this honour twice, the first being in 1986.
