Dubai registers increase in tourist flow

Dubai, July 3 (UNI) Dubai's image as a top travel and tourist destination received a further boost when official figures showed a record surge of 13.7 per cent tourist in the first half of the year.

Dubai Civil Aviation Department (DCAD) statistics showed a 15 per cent increase in passenger arrival over the same period last year.

The DCAD is expecting this to swell to 29 million by the year end.

Cargo movement also registered a 20 per cent growth, with total freight recording 700,000 tonnes.

Aircraft activity also grew, by 12.5 per cent with 117,700 flights from January to June period, up from 105,600 flights for the same period last year.

Dubai is on a massive 15 billion expansion programme to raise the total passenger capacity to a mammoth 75 million.
